AMED - Gulcan Kacmaz Sayyigit, co-spokesperson for the Democratic Unity Initiative called for participation in the rally to be held in Amed (Diyarbakır) on 4 January and said, "Mr Abdullah Ocalan's physical freedom must be secured, the right to hope must be implemented."
The Democratic Institutions Platform will hold a "Hope and Freedom" rally on 4 January at Station Square, demanding the physical freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan.
Veysi Aktas and Cetin Arkas, who are imprisoned with Abdullah Ocalan on Imrali Island, as well as the Democratic Regions Party (DBP), the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, the Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinen Azad-TJA) and politician Leyla Zana will participate as speakers.
Stating that everyone must do their part to build a peaceful society, Gulcan Kacmaz Sayyigit said that there has been a great deal of suffering for a long time and that the current process is a positive step. She said that both the Kurds and the state have serious responsibilities in this process.
She stressed the importance of the commission established in Parliament for the solution meeting with Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali: "The meetings between Mr Abdullah Ocalan and the state regarding the political process are meaningful. We must also accelerate and strengthen this process."
'THE RIGHT TO HOPE MUST BE IMPLEMENTED'
Stating that Abdullah Ocalan's physical freedom is very important for the process, Gulcan Kacmaz Sayyigit reminded that his isolation continues. She said: "Mr. Abdullah Ocalan's physical freedom must be ensured, the right to hope must be implemented, and the conditions and circumstances must be created for him to carry out the process, as he is the main actor. First and foremost, Mr Ocalan and all political prisoners must be freed."
CALL TO PARTICIPATE IN THE RALLY
Gulcan Kacmaz Sayyigit called for participation in the rally and added: "Since the beginning of the process, the Kurdish side has taken very important steps. In this context, the PKK has taken historic steps towards the formation of democratic politics. The Turkish state must also take steps to convince society. The rally plays an important role in this process. Strong participation in the rally is important for Ocalan's freedom, the construction of peace, and the success of the process. We will also work on this basis and call on tens of thousands to join at the rally."
