Sonel, accused of tampering with evidence, will not give testify to prosecutors

ERZURUM – It has emerged that Tuncay Sonel, the former Governor of Tunceli, who is currently in custody on charges of “Destruction, concealment, or alteration of evidence,” in the Gülistan Doku investigation, will not give testify during his interrogation by the prosecution. 
 
Eleven of the 15 individuals detained on 13 April in connection with the case of Gülistan Doku, a second-year student in the Child Development Department at Munzur University who went missing in Dêrsim (Tunceli) on 5 January 2020, have been remanded in custody, whilst three have been released under judicial supervision. 
 
Tuncay Sonel, the Governor of Tunceli at the time, who was in custody as part of the investigation, completed his statement at the Erzurum Police Headquarters yesterday and was transferred to Erzurum Courthouse today. It has been reported that Sonel, who is facing charges of “Destruction, concealment, or alteration of evidence”, will exercise his right to remain silent during the prosecution’s questioning.
