NEWS CENTER - YPJ General Commander Rohilat Efrîn stated that the integration agreement is a starting point, noting that guarantees are needed for the agreement to be implemented by Damascus and that trust cannot be established without constitutional guarantees for Kurdish rights.
A meeting entitled "Rojava and the Democratic Society Process" was held at the London Kurdish Community Centre, led by the Revolutionary Youth Movement (TCŞ) and the Jiyan Women's Council. Rohilat Efrîn, a member of the Women Defence Forces (YPJ) General Command, delivered a speech via video link from Rojava to the meeting, which was attended by hundreds of people. Rohilat Efrîn greeted the Kurdish people and their friends in Europe who stood up for Rojava in the face of the attacks.
Stating that certain steps are being taken in Rojava in the administrative, security and military spheres, Rohilat Efrîn said: “According to the agreement, they had to withdraw from certain areas. They left some villages, but there are still places they have not left. Similarly, the siege on Kobanê (Kobani), that is, the attack and blockade, has not been lifted."
‘THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF ATTACK’
Noting that this situation shows that certain military points and dark centres still exist, Rohilat Efrîn said that there is a possibility of conflict and attack.
Rohilat Efrîn also stated that no step has yet been taken regarding civilians captured and displaced by the Damascus regime under the agreement, adding that a process towards a permanent solution must be initiated but that they have not yet seen any serious steps.
Rohilat Efrîn said that the conditions regarding the appointment of the Governor of Hesekê (Hasakah) by themselves had been accepted, adding that the Damascus government had initially resisted this but had now officially accepted it.
‘STILL NO OFFICIAL RESPONSE FROM THE DEFENCE MINISTRY’
Rohilat Efrîn said that there had been no official response from the government on matters relating to the Ministry of Defence, adding, “So, even though some points have been partially fulfilled, we still have our reservations and misgivings. For this reason, we have stated that a guarantee mechanism must be established. We have said that the coalition forces must play a role in this process, particularly in the monitoring and implementation stages. However, no concrete document or framework has yet been presented on this matter."
'EMPHASIS ON CONSTITUTIONAL GUARANTEES'
Rohilat Efrîn emphasised the need to establish a mechanism that would truly act as a guarantor on the ground, stating that otherwise the process could be jeopardised. Stating that they view the integration agreement as a starting point, Rohilat Efrîn said: "The truth is that trust will not be established unless the rights of the Kurds are guaranteed in the Syrian constitution. Therefore, the agreement is not an end, but a beginning. We must evaluate this beginning comprehensively in political, military and general terms. We want to view this process positively, but there are also risks and concerns. If our people continue with this determination, we believe we will advance the process with this will."
'WE MUST DEFEND ROJAVA'
Referring to the meetings between SDF General Commander Mazlum Abdî and Îlham Ehmed in Mühih, Rohilat Efrîn said: “The efforts of our commanders and our cadres in Germany have increased during this process. Intense work is being carried out to protect and advance our gains in this way. However, we must be realistic. We cannot say that everything is over and resolved just because an agreement has been reached. If this process is carried out correctly, the world public opinion can take more responsibility for the freedom of the Kurds. The most important criterion for us is to protect the gains we have achieved and not to let the struggle of our martyrs go in vain. What is important for us is that the four parts of Kurdistan defend Rojava in unity. Only in this way can the freedom of the Kurdish people be achieved. This is not possible as long as fragmentation and denial continue.”
'EVERYONE MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY'
Referring to the Democratic Society Process in Turkey, Rohilat Efrîn concluded: "We believe in peace and the resolution process. Attacks on Rojava weaken this process. For years, this paradigm has been a model for society, democracy and the coexistence of peoples. This model has been an example not only for the Kurds, but for all peoples. It has offered an alternative solution to capitalist and nation-state mindsets. Therefore, this paradigm is an important force for solution against all attacks. We want everyone to take responsibility for Kurdistan and Rojava. Strong support is needed to stop these attacks."
