NEWS CENTER – According to HRANA, at least 13 people were executed in prisons across different cities in Iran on Saturday morning.

The regime in Iran continues to use the death penalty as a systematic tool of oppression and intimidation. According to the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), at least 13 people were executed in prisons in different cities across the county on Saturday morning.

The executions took place in Horremabad, Sanandaj, Dezful, Aligudarz, Kermanshah, Yasuj, Nehavend, Zahedan, Hamedan and Karaj Central Prison in Tehran.

It was reported that those executed were tried by regime-affiliated courts on charges of drug offences and murder. The rights organisation confirmed the identities of 10 of the 13 executed individuals.

Ali Faza Hoşneşin, Ferşad Şeyhi, Avin Sorkhi, Cafer Faryadi, Ali Sarlakabad, Soşa Moradi, Behzad Meşayekhi, Muhammed Ali Saidlu, Morad Goli and Abolfazl Nakvi were executed.  It was stated that HRANA continue to research to identify the other three individuals.

AT LEAST 2,063 PEOPLE EXECUTED IN ONE YEAR

HRANA noted that these executions were part of the Iranian regime's recent increase in executions. Agency stressed that at least 2,063 people were executed in Iran between 1 January 2025 and 1 January 2026. This figure represents a 119 per cent increase compared to the previous year. Human rights organisations emphasise that these figures show executions in Iran have reached their highest level in the last 10 years.

The United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights also stated in a statement released last month that the Iranian regime uses executions as a "state-sponsored tool of intimidation and repression". The statement highlighted that this policy has a disproportionate impact on ethnic minorities and migrants in particular. Human rights organisations are calling on the international community to take more effective and concrete steps to halt the rising number of executions in Iran.
