Lawyer of Abdullah Öcalan: Fulfil the ‘right to hope’ without delay

ISTANBUL – Emphasizing that the “right to hope” constitutes the main ground of the Peace and Democratic Society Process, Rezan Sarıca, one of the lawyers from Asrın Law Office, stated that this right must be implemented for Abdullah Öcalan without delay.

While the Peace and Democratic Society Process continues, attacks by hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Turkey-backed paramilitary groups against Rojava have begun. As numerous rights violations occurred during the attacks, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) declared general mobilization. In response to this mobilization, Kurds and their friends carried out protest actions in Kurdistan and many countries around the world.

On the other hand, while the attacks continued, the Imrali Delegation of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party also held a meeting with Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan. During the meeting, Abdullah Öcalan emphasized that the attacks were sabotaging the process. Later, Imrali Delegation member Pervin Buldan stated that Abdullah Öcalan’s efforts made an important contribution to the agreement signed between Damascus and SDF.

‘CONDITIONS IN IMRALI STILL CONTINUING ON THE BASIS OF ISOLATION’

Rezan Sarıca, one of the lawyers from Asrın Law Office, stated that although some meetings have been held with Abdullah Öcalan, the isolation has been aggravated since September 2025. Sarıca said: “As his lawyers and family members, we want to meet with Mr. Öcalan. However, we receive neither a positive nor a negative response. This reveals that the conditions in Imrali are still continuing on the basis of isolation. This is not an approach compatible with the process.”

‘RIGHT TO HOPE MUST BE IMPLEMENTED’

Stating that the “right to hope” has not been implemented and has been postponed despite the violation ruling issued by the ECHR in 2014, Rezan Sarıca recalled that although the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers has not imposed sanctions on Turkey, it has stated that the Parliament and the National Solidarity and Brotherhood Commission established in Parliament for the solution of the Kurdish question could carry out work regarding the “right to hope.” Sarıca added: “We see that justifications are being produced for not taking steps on the right to hope. We absolutely do not accept this. The ‘right to hope’ must be implemented for Mr. Öcalan without delay.”

Referring to Abdullah Öcalan’s latest message regarding the attacks on Rojava, in which he said that the attacks were sabotaging the process, Rezan Sarıca said: “A considerable amount of time has passed since the Peace and Democratic Society Process began. During this period, in the Kurds’ first collective reflex, namely the international conspiracy against Rojava, the state did not move very far away from its old codes in response to the political and democratic reflex shown by the Kurds. We have seen that these do not bring about a solution, and we hope that the state will also see this. Therefore, we can say that the latest developments should pave the way for a process in which Kurds and the peoples of Turkey and Syria will win together.”

SOLUTION PROPOSAL OF ABDULLAH ÖCALAN

Speaking about how Abdullah Öcalan, who described the attacks on Rojava as a “new international conspiracy,” proposes a way out of this process, Rezan Sarıca said: “In such a process, Mr. Öcalan states that the method of dialogue and reconciliation must be developed. That is, he emphasizes that a method should be adopted in which violence is never accepted, where there is no war, no massacres, no deaths, no tears and no bloodshed.”

Rezan Sarıca stated that Abdullah Öcalan is striving to stop the “new international conspiracy.” Noting that what Abdullah Öcalan says regarding current issues is very important in such processes, Sarıca said that the state of isolation affects this process and added: “The only thing that can eliminate all kinds of attacks and manipulation is Mr. Öcalan addressing the public directly. That is why we say that the ‘right to hope’ process is the most important ground for the future.”
