ANKARA – Imrali Delegation member Pervin Buldan said that Abdullah Öcalan emphasised that the process had reached a precipice and called for renewed negotiations and dialogue, adding that the agreement between the Damascus Government and the SDF had come about in line with this call.
The agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Transitional Government is seen as more than a technical agreement; it is the result of a new balance of power created on the ground and in politics by the Kurdish people's multidimensional resistance over many years.
The military, social and political reality on the ground has revealed the unsustainability of policies that ignore the Kurdish people, while the inclusion of identity, cultural and educational rights in the agreement text shows that the policy of denial and annihilation pursued for nearly a century has largely failed.
Pervin Buldan, a member of the Imrali Delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, commented on the agreement signed between the SDF and the Syrian Transitional Government and the role of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan in this process.
Pervin Buldan noted that the agreement process between the SDF and Damascus had been ongoing for a long time and that reaching this stage was important.
Pervin Buldan stated that the agreement prevented the loss of thousands of lives, adding that what happened in the Şêxmêqsûd (Sheikh Maqsoud) and Eşrefiyê (Ashrafiah) neighbourhoods was a major conspiracy that could lead to the massacre of the Kurdish people in Syria.
Pervin Buldan stated that during their last meeting with Abdullah Öcalan on Imrali Island on 17 December, clashes were continuing in the Şêxmêqsûd and Eşrefiyê neighbourhoods, adding that this situation caused Abdullah Öcalan great concern and anger. Pervin Buldan said: "Abdullah Öcalan made important observations that paved the way for negotiation and dialogue. It would not be wrong to say that this stage was reached after we conveyed his messages to the relevant parties. Therefore, Mr. Öcalan's mission, role and calls on this issue, based on the perspective of preventing the Kurdish people from being massacred once again, have been decisive in bringing the agreement to this stage."
'HE SAID THE KURDS ARE FACING A MAJOR CONSPIRACY'
Pervin Buldan stated that the safety of the Kurdish people is very important to Abdullah Öcalan, saying, “Mr Öcalan said, 'I see no harm in saying that this is actually a new 15 February Conspiracy'. The Kurds are once again on the verge of a new conspiracy to massacre them. That is why he made important observations about their security, their future, their lives and the protection of the gains they have achieved in every part where they are currently located."
Pervin Buldan conveyed that Abdullah Öcalan had emphasised the great importance of the Kurdish people's preference for negotiation and dialogue, stating, "He made a great effort for this, and in line with the results of this effort, the agreement or reconciliation between the Damascus Government and the SDF today came into effect with this call."
Noting that the struggle is not over, Pervin Buldan said that the process is ongoing and will continue, reminding that the Damascus government is a transitional government.
Pervin Buldan concluded: "Looking at the agreement, there are many debates: is it sufficient or insufficient? We should not look at the issue only in this way. The Kurdish people's struggle will continue; as a result, the Kurdish people will continue to pursue their struggle."
