NEWS CENTER - Former Catalan President Aragonés, stating that the events in Rojava will affect not only the Middle East but the whole world, said, "We fully support the rights of the people in Rojava."
The attacks launched on 6 January by HTS, ISIS and Turkish-backed paramilitary groups on the Şêxmeqsûd (Sheikh Maqsoud) and Eşrefiye (Ashrafiah) neighbourhoods of Aleppo, which subsequently targeted all of Rojava, were stopped by the uprising and resistance of the Kurds and their allies. Although an agreement was reached between The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Damascus, the attacking groups have not lifted their sieges, which have caused a humanitarian crisis, particularly in Kobanê (Kobani). Reactions to the attacks continue from the Kurds and their allies.
Pere Aragonés i Garcia, former President of Catalonia and one of the names supporting Rojava's gains, stated that they are deeply concerned about the situation in Rojava and the human rights of the people, especially the Kurdish people.
Speaking to the Mesopotamia Agency (MA), Aragonés said that the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria showed a high level of respect for human rights. Aragonés stressed that after the fall of the Assad regime, there was a danger of a new dictatorship and that the international community should therefore show solidarity with the Kurdish people. Aragonés said, " The fight is not only about the control of concrete territory. It is a struggle about freedom, about the ability to build a society with equality between men and women, and about the stability in the strategic region of the world, the Middle East. So what happens in Rojava will affect not only Kurdish people, not only the region, it will affect all the world. So it's important to find a political solution and to end this conflict through a democratic resolution and respect the rights, human rights, and the rights of the Kurdish people and all the peoples in the Middle East."
'SHOWING STRONGER SOLIDARITY IS IMPORTANT'
Noting that despite the solidarity shown by the Kurds and their friends in many institutions around the world, particularly in Europe, there has been a change in the US's stance towards the new regime in Damascus, Aragonés said, ". So from my point of view, the Kurdish people are in this game of regional powers in the Middle East and the new alliances from the Trump administration. So for this, it's important to show even more the solidarity with northest Syria."
'WE SUPPORT THE RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE OF ROJAVA'
Aragonés concluded by saying, "Rojava is an example of the struggle of the Kurdish people, but also the other peoples in the region, for freedom, for justice. And it shows us that freedom for a nation has to be equal to the full respect of human rights. And that is the history of Rojava and the administration on the northeast of Syria during the last few years. So in this sense, we fully support the rights of the people in Rojava, and we hope that in the next months the situation will be stabilized and human rights fully respected."
