The state must ensure Mr Öcalan's freedom says Saliha Aydeniz 2025-10-24 15:35:49   MÊRDÎN - Speaking at the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Qoser (Kiziltepe) district congress, Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party MP Saliha Aydeniz said: "If the state wants to solve this problem, it must ensure the freedom of Mr Ocalan."   Democratic Regions Party (DBP) held its 7th Ordinary Congress in Qoser (Kızıltepe) district of Mêrdîn (Mardin). Many people attended the congress held in a wedding hall in Qoser. The congress started with the election of the council. Speaking at the congress Saliha Aydeniz stated that it is important to protect the Peace and Democratic Society process.   She said: "The role of our party is very important to build a democratic society. Today, a process has started thanks to the resistance of our people. Everyone should know that this process has started today thanks to the struggle together. The resistance of women, the resistance of the youth, the resistance of the peoples brought this process. Kurds resisted everywhere. When the Leader of the peoples Mr Abdullah Ocalan called for a Democratic Society, he also placed responsibilities on the state. Because peace is not only a need of Kurds and peoples. Peace is also needed by the state. The state also needs to change. Therefore, peace cannot be one-sided. Just as Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan made a call and convened the PKK congress and revealed his attitude, the state must also show a clear, sincere and courageous attitude."     'ÖCALAN MUST BE FREE'   Saliha Aydeniz stated that those who want the process to work and succeed should first of all fight for the conditions for Öcalan's freedom.   Saliha Aydeniz concluded: "If the state sincerely wants to solve this problem, it must ensure the freedom of Mr Öcalan. This issue is not only a Kurdish issue. This issue is a matter of Turkey's democratisation. Then the state will approach it accordingly. The commission should also go and meet with the Leader of the peoples as soon as possible."     Following the speeches, the financial and activity reports were read.  Afterwards, Metin Aslan and Sultana Yusufoğlu were elected as DBP district co-chairs.
