Resistance of 223 workers continue: Wan defends labour, says no to kayyum 2025-10-24 08:32:22   WAN - The resistance of 223 workers dismissed from their jobs by the Wan (Van) Metropolitan Municipality under the kayyum (trustee) administration continued on its 85th day. Workers once again said: "We will not give way to the kayyum and the rent-seekers".    The press statement made at the entrance of the street was attended by civil society organisations and many citizens. Vedat Emre read the statement on behalf of the masses. Stating that they are among the honourable people of this city who raise their children with their labour, Emre said that the government's practices of appointing trustees eliminated local democracy. He said: "Today, on our 85th day, we emphasise once again. The unlawfulness experienced by 223 workers today is not only the problem of Wan but also the problem of the entire working class of Turkey. It is the problem of the defenders of law and justice. Individual decisions and practices that sabotage the process in this period when the hope for peace and democracy is increasing are the problem of the parliament and the commission formed in the parliament."    'WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEEK OUR USURPED RIGHTS'   Stating that the suspicious murder of Rojin Kabais reveals the mentality they live in, Emre added: "The murderers must be tried, human life should not be treated so cheaply. We will make our voices heard and complain to every corner of the country by saying right, law and justice. We call on all Wan people, public opinion and legal organisations to support our struggle. Wan is ours, labour is ours, we will not give way to the trustee and the rent-seekers. Wan protects labour, says no to the kayyum."
